Aberdare National Park
Experience Aberdare National Park
The Aberdare National Park is a highland wilderness of dramatic contrasts — from dense bamboo and cedar forest on the lower slopes to open moorland, heathland, and Afro-alpine moorland above 3,000 m. The Aberdares form part of Kenya's central water tower, feeding rivers that supply millions of people downstream. The park is famous for its 'treetop lodges' — elevated viewing platforms above water holes where elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard arrive nightly under floodlights. The rare and elusive bongo antelope, found almost nowhere else in East Africa, inhabits the deep forest zones. Dramatic waterfalls — including Karura Falls at 273 m — add to the park's visual spectacle.
