Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, whose snow-capped summit towers over the open plains at 5,895 m. The park is world-famous for its free-roaming elephant herds — some of the largest and least-disturbed populations in Africa — studied continuously since the 1970s. Amboseli's unique hydrology, fed by underground streams from Kilimanjaro's glaciers, supports five distinct habitats: open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush, swamps, and lakes. The result is an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, all set against Africa's most iconic mountain backdrop.
