Nairobi National Park is arguably the world's most extraordinary urban wildlife reserve — a fully wild, unfenced ecosystem located just 7 km from Nairobi's central business district. Established in 1946 as Kenya's first national park, its 117 km² boundary is open to the south, allowing wildlife to migrate freely to and from the Athi-Kapiti plains. The park holds one of Kenya's highest concentrations of black rhino, alongside lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and over 400 bird species. The juxtaposition of wildlife roaming with Nairobi's skyline on the horizon is unlike anywhere else on the planet.
