Shimba Hills National Reserve
Experience Shimba Hills National Reserve
Shimba Hills National Reserve is one of East Africa's largest coastal forests, located approximately 33 km from Diani Beach in Kwale County. The reserve offers a unique blend of rainforest, woodland, grassland, and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is best known as the only protected area in Kenya where visitors can reliably spot the rare sable antelope, one of Africa's most striking antelope species. The reserve is also home to elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, leopards, and over 100 bird species. One of its most popular attractions is Sheldrick Falls, a scenic waterfall reached via a guided forest hike. The cool climate, lush vegetation, and panoramic ocean vistas make Shimba Hills a refreshing contrast to the nearby beaches.
